Cloud for Teaching

AWS, Google, and Azure offer credits options, and IT Services can help you get started.


Benefits of using the University cloud GCP, AWS, or Azure environments for teaching:

  • Easy access management – students log in with their University credentials and use 2FA.
  • Easily manage student and TA access to the class cloud environments.
  • Have visibility into your students’ cloud work, if desired.
  • Additional threat monitoring and protections for the cloud environments.
  • Access to University cloud provider technical contacts.
Google Cloud Services Amazon Web Services Microsoft Azure
Ideal Use Ideal if you want students to have their own cloud environment (GCP project) using credit and want visibility over these projects Ideal for one cloud environment (AWS account) that you manage in which the students create resources. Ideal if you want to use services particular to Microsoft Azure and want each student to have their own cloud environment (Azure subscription) using credit
Credit $50 credit per student Apply for credit to be applied on your course AWS account. Azure for Students subscriptions allow $100 in credit. Note there are some limitations, such as compute node types available. Test first to be sure it will work for your course.
Visibility Option for all class projects to be in one GCP folder for visibility. IT Services can help set up access to the course AWS account with specific permissions for your students and staff.
